# GamesLike API

GamesLike offers a free Model Context Protocol (MCP) server at
`https://gameslike.co/api/mcp` over Streamable HTTP. Use an MCP client, initialize
the connection, and call `tools/list` to obtain the current tool descriptions,
input schemas, and authorization requirements.

## Tools

- `search_games`: resolve a Steam game title to an `appid`. Pass `query` and
optionally `limit` (1–10). Ask which edition the user means when ambiguous.
- `find_similar_games`: retrieve ranked matches for a selected `appid`.
Pass `limit` (1–10) and optional gameplay preferences from its current schema.
- `browse_releases`: browse release dates within a window of at most 90 days.
The `to` date is exclusive. Broad release windows do not confirm an exact day.
- `find_party_games`: find games for 2–8 people using three distinct exact
favorite game IDs per person. Ownership is unknown; capacity follows the
  requested evidence policy.
- `recommend_from_library`: get discovery or backlog recommendations using
the user's connected Steam library and preferences. Requires the optional
ChatGPT OAuth connection with `library:read`; see [auth.md](/auth.md).
- `list_wishlist` and `get_personal_brief`: read the connected account's
wishlist and gaming brief with `library:read`.
- `set_wishlist_entry` and `set_game_preference`: apply the user's explicit
wishlist or taste choice with separate `library:write` approval.
- `get_group_games`: read picks for an existing group session with `groups:read`
  and verified membership.

The first four tools are read-only and work anonymously. The browser's native
WebMCP API exposes these public tools on page load when the browser supports
WebMCP. Browser tools do not use account cookies or expose private account tools.

Returned game titles include `title_markdown` and canonical GamesLike URLs.
Preserve those links and the returned rank order. Tags describe catalog
evidence; they do not prove exact mechanics or absence of combat. Tool failures
have `isError: true` and actionable error content. Respect retry guidance and
keep explicit user requirements when fewer results match.

## HTTP transport

Send JSON-RPC 2.0 messages using `POST`, with `Content-Type: application/json`,
`Accept: application/json, text/event-stream`, and the negotiated
`MCP-Protocol-Version` header. Request bodies are limited to 32 KiB. The server
uses JSON responses and no persistent session. Notifications return HTTP 202.
`GET` returns HTTP 405 because the server does not offer a separate event
stream. `OPTIONS` supports the existing trusted browser origins; public
metadata supports cross-origin reads. Search admission can return a retryable
busy tool error.

The [OpenAPI document](/openapi.json) describes this HTTP transport, not REST
versions of the MCP tools. The [MCP Server Card](/api/mcp/server-card) describes
the connection. Tool capabilities are negotiated through MCP rather than
copied into a static card.

Other `/api/` routes support the website and are not a public integration API.
Purchases take place on linked stores; GamesLike has no paid API or checkout.
