10+ Games like Black and White 2

black and white 2

Black and White 2 is a strategy game about life, death, and the very meaning of reality as you know it. It is also one of the most critically acclaimed PC games ever made. So when we asked for your favourite titles to compare with our list, these were the ones that took us back to Black and White 2 in a way no other game could.

A quick word before we get started: while some of these are great games in their own right, they pale in comparison to Black and White 2 narratively or mechanically. To cut to the chase, if you want a game that’s precisely like Black and White 2, here are ten more games we think will hit the spot.

Games like Black and White 2

1. Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning

A continuation of fantasy RPG legend Risen and Reckoning lets you play as a bold warrior who must become king to end an age of darkness. After a fatal strike against his sidekick, Amalur’s godlike hero is resurrected to kickstart the fight to end a war against the encroaching darkness. The gameplay holds up alongside any hack-and-slash RPGs on the market and features an incredible studio called Big Huge Games which sadly ceased to exist in 2012.

2. Paranautical Activity

You don’t have to have played the first game to appreciate Paranautical Activity; it’ll be a complete experience all on its own. It’s a side-scrolling shoot-’em-up that’s distinctly different from the competition, a game where you play as an amnesiac in possession of a deadly letterbox that contains a vial of poison. Players will have to learn enemy patterns while dodging bullets and delivering devastating finishers, especially since the letterbox’s ability to transform into a worm that can eat enemies and heal you is surprisingly flexible.

3. The Sinking City

It’s Lovecraft as you’ve never seen him before: Set in the 1920s, you’ll play Randall Jones, who has to race against time to defeat an ancient plan that intends to flood New York City, revealing a hidden world underneath. The storyline and atmosphere are top-notch, with a fully realized world comprising five unique districts scattered across the city. The game is being developed by Zoetrope Interactive, a studio already familiar with Lovecraftian fare after finishing up Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.

4. Octodad: Dadliest Catch

It’s one thing to be a dad—an entirely different thing to be an octopus pretending to be one. So Octodad has you playing as an octopus with grown legs and disguises himself as a human father. As you progress through a series of challenging puzzles, you’ll have to maintain your disguise even though you’re an octopus with no idea how to keep your legs from falling off.

5. Don’t Starve

It’s one of the most popular indie games not only because it’s unique and creative but because it is playable. It’s a survival game in a randomly generated world filled with things trying to kill you every step of the way. However, despite the hunger, lack of sleep, and new threats around every corner.

6. Sakura Spirit

I know what you’re thinking: “Wait, I’ll be able to beat up girls too?” Yes, but there’s a catch. You have to play as Sakura, a kunoichi tasked with defending her school against a horde of zombies. To do so, you’ll have to protect the school’s students. The game is relatively straightforward in its gameplay, but it features a unique take on the action/fighting genre that makes it unlike anything else on this list.

7. King’s Bounty: Armored Princess

King’s Bounty is a great game that requires a lot of work and skill to conquer, so if you’re looking for something with the same overall feel and gameplay but easier, try out King’s Bounty: Armored Princess. The sequel has you playing a female knight named Amelia, who seeks revenge against the dark elves and their Queen that killed her father. To get your revenge, you’ll have to grow stronger as you travel across this fantastical land.

8. Jane Jensen’s Moebius

Jane Jensen is a legend in the gaming field, and her latest endeavour after the Gabriel Knight series has been in development for quite some time. The game is called Moebius, and it’s a point-and-click adventure that takes place in Paris in 1969. Unfortunately, the fun doesn’t feature many adventure games, so if you’re looking for something with the same visual flair but different gameplay mechanics, this might be your ticket.

9. The Guest

You’re trapped in your room, and the only thing you can do is wait for your kidnapper to return. The Host is a fantastic psychological thriller that seeks to pick apart the mind of its victim while they wait for their doom. The only gameplay element is using a tablet with a unique cursor showing you what your kidnapper wants you to do next. In addition, you can take note of things like toys, music, and other items that might reveal clues about what’s going on outside your room.

What is Black and White 2?

Black and White 2 is a video game where you play as a god, who has to keep his people happy while dealing with natural disasters and evil forces that threaten his world. You can either be a good god or an evil one, which changes the style of your gameplay. For example, the good god can grow crops for food and make rain fall but must choose between helping nature to flourish or using manipulation to further his own goals. The evil god can control zombies or even turn people into zombies, which he uses to steal from other villages.

Black and White 2 was released on PC in 2009 by Lionhead Studios. It has many improvements over its predecessor including better graphics, more dynamic animations, more detailed terrain textures and effects, and an improved interface.
