Lady Arianne Reinard never liked engaging with the banality of high society. She much preferred the escape brought to her by attending the theatre, or sneaking out to spend time with her lowborn friends in the Fens (much to her father's disapproval). Arianne knew, of course, that escape would be fleeting. It was her fate to fulfill her familial duty of becoming an obedient wife and mother, and she had no reason to suspect she would have any other choice in the matter.

On the eve of the Willowport Summer Ball, however, Arianne makes the shocking discovery that her father, Duke Vernon, and her suitor, Ser Alistair, are plotting to tear down the Fens, and sacrifice all those that live within, that very same night. Arianne makes the difficult choice to leave high society behind, saving her friends and stealing her father's ship to flee Willowport.

Lady Arianne, now playing the role of Captain Arianne of the Curtain Call, turns to a life of piracy while pursuing plans to right her family's wrongs and return her and her friends to Willowport — That is, until the unexpected and untimely arrival of an enigmatic and flirtatious pirate named Theo changes everything.
