Even moving is a card, so where you stand is part of your deck. Spellstride across the board to get behind an enemy for a backstab, or line a few of them up for one attack. Enemies don't wait for your turn to end. Each one acts partway through it after you play a set number of cards, and you can see how many that is.

After a fight you pick a new card, and camps let you upgrade the ones you have. There are over 200 cards, from blades and arrows to frost, shadow and summoning, and merchants sell more along the way.

Each act is a branching map of fights, elites, camps, merchants and treasure, with a boss at the end. The forest, the swamp and the depths each have their own enemies and arena layouts.

There are 8 bosses and each act picks one, so you don't always know who's waiting. Bosses have their own attacks, and some of them get more dangerous as they lose health.

You can invite a Steam friend into 2-player online co-op. Each of you has your own deck and health against tougher enemies, and co-op runs save and resume.
