PhantomGaze is a 2D side-scrolling Metroidvania action RPG that fuses intense soulslike combat with story-driven exploration.

Beneath the shadow of a colossal wall lies the last village — Damangol (牆內谷).

Of all those who set out beyond the wall, not a single one ever returned.

People say they were killed by monsters.

But the truth was something else entirely.

They could never come back — because they had learned the truth.

Gang-un (姜運) — The Blind Swordsman

No memory. No sight. With only a pair of twin blades in his hands, he chases a voice that echoes again and again in his dreams.

"Don't give up… please, don't forget me."

Why he cannot see. Why he remembers nothing. The deeper he descends into the wall, the more slowly — and surely — the truth begins to reveal itself.

Companions

Two companions walk beside Gang-un.

They are no mere helpers. As the journey unfolds, the bond between the three twists in directions no one could have foreseen.

🏹 Arin — A flickering, glitch-ridden presence whose form stutters in and out of reality. The monsters cannot perceive her. She is the one who answers what Gang-un cannot — long-range threats, unblockable strikes. Her arrows reach where his blades never could.

🗡️ Naya — A whip-sword wielder clad in flowing, dance-like attire. A lone survivor who has endured within the wall for years. No one knows its secrets better than she does.

Combat

Combat is built upon the rhythm of soulslike exchange.

Read your enemy's strikes, and seize control through three forms of parry.

Offensive Parry — Strike at the moment of impact and pierce straight through the enemy. The most dangerous, and the most exhilarating choice.

Defensive Parry — Block at the moment of impact and counter without delay. The steady foundation of every duel.

Sub Parry — Predict the strike and a companion intervenes — unleashing a devastating combined assault.

As parries accumulate, the enemy collapses into a downed state.

And in that moment — Nag-il (落日), the Falling Sun. A single, devastating finishing blow brings the battle to its end.

Companion Auto-Combat

Your companions need no command. They read the battlefield themselves, and fill the spaces Gang-un cannot reach.

While Gang-un strikes a single point, his companions sweep away everything around it.

A companion's skill, unleashed at the right moment — that single choice changes the tide of battle.

Pierce an enemy's weak point, and that place — that instant — is etched into Gang-un's senses.

The more your bestiary fills, the more clearly the unseen takes shape.

Growth

Absorb the Soul Tokens (Hollyeong-pae) left behind by fallen foes, and carve new traits and techniques into Gang-un.

Change your weapon, and the way you fight changes. Change your companion, and the way you strategize changes.

The relics of fallen comrades take root within Gang-un's body — awakening as new abilities of his own.

Bosses

The enemies within the wall were never monsters to begin with.

Each boss is the final form of someone who once held a name, and a conviction. Gang-un's blade does not slay them — it sets them free.

And at the end of every path, a single existence awaits — the one who first wove this chain of tragedy.

Exploration

The world within the wall is a world of its own.

There are depths where sunlight never reaches. There are green forests. There are rivers whose currents no one can name, and peaks where even the wind holds its breath.

Each region carries its own silence and threat. And what you encounter within them — no one ever called them enemies, to begin with.
