SteamAbout What Have I Become?
YOUR DECK IS YOUR PERSONALITY.
No single choice defines you. This is fortunate, as several will be made while tired, frightened, hopeful, or listening to someone who should have stopped talking some time ago.
What you choose again and again, however, has a way of settling in.
In What Have I Become?, you live a life from birth to its end. This short, replayable narrative deck-building life sim turns your personality into a deck shaped by your choices. Your cards are not attacks, weapons, or items. They are the tendencies, defences, desires, values, and contradictions that settle into you over time. They take up no shelf space. This is their only practical advantage.
Your choices build your deck. Your deck changes the choices that follow.
A LIFE IS BUILT FROM SMALL MOMENTS
You do not choose the circumstances of your birth. This is one of life’s earliest administrative decisions, and appeals are rarely processed.
You do not choose everything that follows, either. As you grow from childhood into adulthood, family, school, relationships, work, loss, chance, and a world with its own poorly communicated plans bring you into small, ordinary moments. Life tends to conceal its largest questions there: when to stay silent, what to defend, whom to let close, and what to leave behind.
Circumstances make some responses easier and others more costly. They may explain part of you. They do not get to finish the sentence.
CHOICES LEAVE TRACES. TRACES TEND TO STAY.
A tendency may begin as something uncertain. Feed it and it settles in; neglect it and it may weaken, regress, or transform. Some traits complement one another and crystallise into more distinct identities. Others coexist only in the strictest legal sense.
Make a choice, and it leaves a trace. Given time, that trace begins turning up in later decisions without being invited. The cards you carry affect the options available to you, how natural or difficult certain actions feel, and which paths begin to open.
You do not play a card and discard it. You learn to live with it.
MANY PATHS. NO OFFICIALLY CORRECT LIFE.
Your history, circumstances, and deck bring different paths and goals within reach. You decide which ones to commit to. Entering the same path with a different personality, pursuing the same goal by another method, or changing direction can lead to different outcomes.
You may reach a goal, fall short, abandon it, or become someone else during the attempt. The world is excellent at recording outcomes and rather poor at understanding them.
Failure does not make a life meaningless. Sometimes it becomes the beginning of another path—or another self.
AT THE END, YOUR LIFE LOOKS BACK
The game will not simply declare you good or bad. Life rarely produces an answer that convenient, although several institutions remain optimistic.
Your final title, ending, and Life Report reflect what you carried, what you lost, what you almost became, and what all of it made of you.
Completed lives remain in your Life Archive, placing different beginnings, decks, and paths side by side. It is a tidy filing system for things that were never tidy while they were happening.
Beginning again is not about finding the right ending. It is about asking the same question as someone else—and finding a different way to carry the answer.
