Games Like SHHH: Don't Wake the House

The house is asleep. Keep it that way.

You and up to three friends have one night and one van. The owner is upstairs in bed. Everything you take has to leave through the front door without waking him - and the game is listening.

Your microphone is a game mechanic

SHHH uses proximity voice chat, and it is not just for talking. The game measures how loud you actually are. A whisper is nearly free. A normal conversation slowly fills the Wake Meter. A laugh or a shout carries through the house and can end the night on its own. The tension does not come from the game telling you to be quiet - it comes from your friend panicking out loud two rooms away. No microphone? The game is fully playable without one.

Noise is the real enemy

Some things take two

Fridges, televisions, washing machines and safes cannot be carried alone. One player can drag one slowly and noisily; two players carry it properly, one on each end, and have to agree where it goes. Co-ordinating a fridge down a dark hallway in a whisper is exactly the kind of trouble this game is made of.

If he wakes up

The owner gets out of bed with a torch and starts looking. Hide in a wardrobe, under a bed, behind a curtain - but hiding is not safe: rustle, or speak, and he knows where you are. Get caught and he drags you to the garage and ties you up. A teammate has to work the knots loose before the lights go out, or your share of the night goes with you.

Contracts, nights and a debt

Every night is a contract: reach the target value, deliver the specific items the fence asked for, and get to the van. The fence takes his cut, the van is rented, and what is left is yours. Miss a payment and the run is over.

Everyone is equal in the house

Money buys looks and nothing else. Nearly fifty playable characters to unlock - and not one of them makes you quieter, faster or harder to catch. Nobody joins your crew at a disadvantage.
