Nine years ago, weeks of rain destroyed the roads through Reserve Four. The region was evacuated, declared temporarily closed and never reopened.

Now the Ranger Service has sent you to investigate.

You are a Ranger candidate assigned to reopen the abandoned station, restore five emergency radio relays, and determine whether the reserve can operate again. Your pickup is your mobile base, the weather controls every journey, and help is not around.

Then the first restored relay receives a transmission.

It is an evacuation order from nine years ago, still repeating from somewhere beyond Granite Pass.

THE WILDERNESS REMEMBERS

Every expedition changes the ground beneath you.

Truck tires carve persistent ruts through mud. Boots wear paths into the wilderness. Repeated travel compacts the earth, while neglected routes slowly grow over again. Storms deepen old damage and can destroy crossings you thought were repaired.

The route you build today may be the only way home tomorrow.

RESTORE A LIVING RESERVE

Reserve Four is one connected wilderness divided into five distinct regions, from the wetlands of Blackwater Marsh to the isolated North Range.

Repair radio towers, rebuild bridges, clear damaged roads, recover abandoned vehicles, survey wildlife, search for missing residents, deliver supplies, and bring the ranger station back into operation.

The missions are generated around the actual landscape. A different world seed changes the regions, roads, rivers, landmarks and location of the mountain pass and not merely the scenery between them.

SURVIVE THE EXPEDITION

Weather, distance and preparation are the real dangers.

Manage warmth, heat, energy, hydration, food and injuries as expedition resources. Check the forecast, load the truck, carry enough fuel and decide how far daylight will take you. When the road ends, continue on foot, or build somewhere safe to spend the night.

Hunt, fish, forage and set snares. Cook over a fire. Craft tools and supplies wherever you stop. Build camps, shelters, walkways, bridges and even a skiff to fish from materials gathered in the reserve.

YOUR TRUCK IS YOUR MOBILE BASE

The reserve is too large to cross carelessly.

Maintain your vehicle’s fuel, battery, engine temperature and condition. Fit upgrades for storage, recovery and difficult terrain. Mud, steep ground and damaged roads demand momentum and planning, but every repaired route makes the next journey easier.

There is no unstick button. If the truck cannot continue, you solve the problem or start walking.

A GROUNDED WILDERNESS MYSTERY

Restore the radio network and follow the repeating signal north. Search abandoned stations, fire lookouts and research huts. Read the duty logs, letters and administrative records left in their drawers.

There is nothing supernatural in Reserve Four. Every strange signal has a person, a piece of paper and a battery bank behind it.

PLAY ALONE OR TOGETHER

Take on the reserve alone, join an online co-op expedition, or share one wilderness in local split-screen with up to four players.

Co-op players share the same world while keeping their own view, equipment and survival state. Divide the work, travel together or split up across the reserve, but remember that the weather and daylight move for everyone.
