Par Under Review is a turn-based dice-golf roguelike set in the 1920s and 1930s during golf’s Golden Age, when hickory shafts are giving way to steel, mashies and niblicks to numbered irons and specialist wedges, and the modern bag is taking shape.

You test courses on hex-grid blueprints, using cards and dice to simulate a golfer’s performance. It’s a game about visible risks, considered decisions, and the peculiar satisfaction of making a difficult line add up.

Golf has a strategic craft shared by golfers and caddies: understanding the course, accounting for the likely miss, and planning the shot that follows. Par Under Review puts that craft in your hands.

Fairway rewards good positioning. Sand steals distance. Trees block your line. Water punishes optimism. Compare possible landings and their probabilities, choose your approach, and decide how much risk a better score is worth.

There is no swing meter and no test of reflexes. A good shot begins long before the ball moves.

A specialist can turn a dreadful lie into an opportunity, but every tool has its limitations. The challenge is finding a useful combination and learning how to play around its gaps. The same hole becomes a different puzzle with a different bag.

Play a campaign of 27 curated holes, experiment with different builds in procedural roguelike runs, or take on a shared daily round of nine holes.
