A loaded ship has no brakes. Ring the engine telegraph, let her carry her way and bring her alongside slow and parallel, then send the bow line, the stern line and the springs ashore. Tugs, current, crosswinds, fog and night traffic all have a say. When a ship of yours arrives, you choose: take the helm for a tip and a better reputation in port, or pay for a pilot and tugs.

Start with one old coaster in Istanbul. Pick contracts for general cargo, containers, oil, bulk, reefer and project loads, buy product tankers, bulk carriers, ro-ros, feeders and tankers, give each one a name, and hire captains to run them while you sail.
