Games Like Danelaw

Danelaw is a Viking action RPG set in Northumbria in the age of the Great Heathen Army. Fight in shield walls of hundreds, ride and raid across a living open world, feud with war-leaders who remember you, and build a hold of your own. No class, no chosen one. You land at the Tyne as the least of a war-band and make your name one oath, one feud and one battle at a time.

Cut high or low. Parry and riposte. Break a guard. Step aside. Swords, axes, spears and clubs each reach as far as they're long and hit as hard as they should. Stand in a shield wall of hundreds, charge on horseback, or loose arrows from the saddle. No button-mashing. Every fight is won on stamina and timing.

Every war-leader and champion in the north keeps score. Mercy, insult, ransom and murder all go on the record, and they act on it: hunting you down, calling a moot, sending kin to demand wergild. Seven war-bands, their lords and their champions rise and fall without you. The one you left for dead may come back scarred, renamed, and better.

Steal from a house and a neighbour sees it. Burn a thatch and the watch comes. Walk into any hall with no loading screen, and the people inside know your name, or know your face. Ride from Eoferwic to the Roman Wall through seasons that follow the real year of 866 AD: harvest, midsummer bonfires, winter snow, northern lights. And watch the feasts. In another lord's hall, the doors may bar behind you.

A story campaign across four acts takes you from the shingle at the Tyne to the high seat. Then the north is yours to rule: judge disputes, take tribute, marry and raise heirs. Side quests send you on treasure hunts and heroic deeds, and your companions remember the fallen.

Three friends can join your game in online co-op, in the same story and the same world. Fight together, raid together, and even marry at the hall. Danelaw is in active development. Footage and screenshots are pre-alpha.
